BAG History Group / History Festival May Program
South Australia's History Festival is an annual statewide event exploring South Australia's history through hundreds of events ranging from talks to tours, walks to workshops, exhibitions to special events and just about everything in between. BAG has participated in the history festival for many years and is pleased to present our 2026 tours.

Mitcham Hills Train Journey
- Focus on Natural Heritage
Enjoy a scenic train journey through Mitcham Hills to appreciate the legacy developed by the Ashby family on their farmland including Watiparinga National Trust Reserve and Wittunga. Includes a guided walk and refreshments at Wittunga in the 1914 Apple Store and walking between Coromandel Station and Wittunga.
WHEN: Tues 12 May OR Tues 19 May; 8:50am – 12:00pm

Blackwood Experimental
Orchard to Recreation Forest
Learn about the significance of the experimental orchard locally, nationally and internationally and then how the community fought a 20 - year battle for its retention as an open recreation space. Join us for an informative talk, soup lunch and guided forest walk.

By the beginning of the 20th century, Blackwood and the nearby townships were well established. Many of the early settlers had handed their properties onto the
next generation and newcomers had joined the original families. Join us to learn more about our more recent predecessors and their impact on the Mitcham Hills
district. Refreshments provided.
